Nourish Your Life – Savor and Flourish
I’m living proof that changing your diet can dramatically improve your health. Around 18 months ago, I had a severe asthma attack that almost claimed my life. Spending two days in a coma and a week on a respirator was a real wake-up call for me.
Desperate to turn things around, I asked my doctor for advice. She said I’d likely need medication for the rest of my life, but I wasn’t ready to accept that. I was dealing with asthma, allergies, a weak immune system, low thyroid function, and even some extra weight around my middle. There had to be something I could do to take control of my health.
After researching, I realized Hippocrates was right when he said, “Let food be thy medicine.” It’s commonly known that milk can increase phlegm, but did you know that spirulina outranks beef as a protein source?
I was shocked to discover how unhealthy my diet really was. I thought home-cooked meals had to be healthier than junk food, but many of my ingredients were still refined and filled with unhealthy additives. The best diet, I learned, consists of plant-based, whole foods – nothing processed or overly packaged. The fresher, the better. If possible, grow your own food.
Since switching to a plant-based diet, I’ve noticed several benefits:
1. **Better Sleep**: Eating mostly plants and whole grains like quinoa has improved my sleep. I rarely have indigestion, and I wake up feeling rested and even remember my dreams.
2. **Younger Appearance**: When I revealed my age to friends, they were shocked, thinking I was 15 years younger. I believe a healthy diet, regular exercise, and good sleep are my secret weapons.
3. **Mental Clarity**: Cutting out refined sugars and carbs has sharpened my focus. Without the brain fog that these foods can cause, I can think more clearly.
4. **Increased Energy**: I have energy from morning till night. I’ve noticed a significant difference since eating natural ketones instead of carbs, which often make me feel sluggish.
5. **Improved Health**: My health has greatly improved, so much so that I’ve stopped taking synthetic thyroid hormones and reduced my asthma medications. I also take supplements to maintain this level of health.
6. **Extended Longevity**: While it’s too soon to say my diet has extended my life, I’ve definitely stopped my downward spiral towards early health issues. I used to get sick all the time, but now I can’t remember the last time I even sneezed.
Where you shop matters just as much as what you buy. High gas prices are a good reason to buy local produce, but local shopping isn’t always possible. When you can, choose organic foods because they’re free from harmful pesticides and chemicals. This is also true for supplements – organic options provide peace of mind and balanced nutrition.
By making these changes, you can take control of your health, just like I did.
